I didn’t see Kaiser for the rest of the day, but I picked him up late the next morning to shop with me. Nora had a bunch of things on her list that she needed to do, but the day was turning out incredibly busy at Juice Me and she couldn’t get away. I heard the stress in her voice when she called me, begging for me to pick some things up for the second location.

Shopping didn’t interest me a whole lot outside of the occasional boredom and intrigue of seeing what’s out there. What had I missed in the last handful of months that I’d shut out the world?

Since Nora and I agreed that I’d not be any help in the juice bar since my skills covered chopping fruits and vegetables, I stopped by to grab her list and then called Kaiser.

He was thrilled to come. The excitement in his voice made me smile. And that’s how I found myself in his driveway thirty minutes later. He opened the door before I was halfway up the walk and ran out to me.

I hadn’t been expecting him to run into me, but I caught him in a hug in which he buried his face in my neck. Sighing, I rested my chin on him and closed my eyes.

“I missed you,” he said quietly.

His words made me smile in that way one does when they’re falling for someone but also made a chasm of pain split in my chest. I swallowed it down and held him tighter. Maybe I could squeeze the feeling away.

“Missed you, too,” I told him.

After another minute, he pulled back to look at me with a small smile on his face. He looked harder today. More masculine, though I wasn’t sure what was different. Jeans that still outlined his perfect ass. A simple t-shirt that fit him in just the right way that said he had a gorgeously trim body without actually showing off the lines of it. And sneakers.

“Ready?”

He nodded, smiling, and turned back to the house. Marley was in the door and my heart jumped at the look of her in a short sundress. Kaiser waved, blowing her a kiss, and turned to the car. I didn’t follow him for a minute as I looked at her.

Marley brushed strands of silken brown hair behind an ear and looked at me with an unassuming smile. I thought Kaiser should have been enough. He should have satisfied every alpha need in me. As an omega, it should have been the only connection my alpha craved like this.

But there was no mistaking the way I reared up with a passion to possess her, too. Like fireworks ready to explode. Like a wolf’s bite, ready to claim. And like a man who had spotted someone they knew instinctively would complete them.

I inclined my head to her and raised my hand in a pathetic wave. Her smile widened slightly and I turned away before I could do something stupid.

Like running away after she kisses me.
